Day 1
Day 1: Arrival Day, Addis Ababa.

Upon arrival You will be picked from the airport and dropped off at your Hotel in Addis Ababa for the Night stay.

Day 2
Day 2: Addis Ababa – Bahir Dar.

Domestic flight Addis Ababa to Bahir Dar. pickup at Bahir Dar airport. Enjoy a boat trip on Lake Tana to visit a selection of the monasteries hidden on the islands and shores of this sacred lake. Visit the Zege Peninsula and the monasteries of Azuwa Maryam and Ura Kidane Mehret as well as the outlet of the Blue Nile River, where hippos can sometimes be seen.

Drive out to the Blue Nile Falls for a short hike in the area. The water levels in the falls can vary depending on the season and per use of the local power station. The walk is a pleasant one, where you are sure to get a look into the lives of the local residents. You will cross the Blue Nile River by boat before retiring at Abay Minch Lodge for the night.

Day 3
Day 3: Bahir Dar - Gondar.

The three-hour drive will take you through rural villages, offering wonderful insight into the Amhara Culture. Explore the sites of Gondar, including a visit to the Royal Enclosure, with six castles and several other buildings. Additionally, visit Fasilidas’s Pool, still used for Timket celebrations today, Ras Gimb Palace Museum and the Debre Birhan Selassie church, with the most famous ceiling in Ethiopia and retire at Goha Hotel for the night.

Day 4
Day 4: Gondar - Axum.

Domestic flight Gondar to Axum and pick up at Axum airport. Today will be a full day visiting the sites of Axum, including the famous obelisks (one that was recently erected after being returned from Italy) and the archeological museum, the Queen of Sheba’s Bath (which supplies water to Axum year-round), Ezana’s inscription, King Kaleb’s tomb, King Bazen’s tomb, and the Queen of Sheba’s Palace. You will also visit the St. Mary of Zion church, where the Ark of the Covenant is kept. Men only are allowed to visit the old church. Unfortunately, no one (except one specially chosen guardian monk) is allowed to enter the chapel where the Ark is kept. Time permitting, you may also visit the Church of Arbuta Ensessa before retiring at Sabean International Hotel for the night.

Day 5: Axum - Lalibela.

Domestic flight Axum to Lalibela with pick at Lalibela airport. Visit the Northwestern Cluster of churches - Bet Medhane Alem, Bet Maryam, Bet Meskel, Bet Danaghel, Bet Mikael & Bet Golgotha (entry not permitted for women) and retire at Maribela Hotel.

Day 6
Day 6: Lalibela - Kristos.

Visit the church of Yimrehane Kristos, about 45 km from Lalibela town. This is the most popular church in the surrounding region. Created in the late-Axumite style, this church is set in the entrance to a cave with a skeleton graveyard in the back of devout pilgrims who visited this church. Visit the Southeastern Cluster of churches – Bet Gabriel-Rufael, Bet Merkorios, Bet Amanual, and Bet Abba Libanos. Finally, you will visit the most famous of all the churches – Bet Giyorgis, constructed in honor of the patron saint of Ethiopia – Saint George with Overnight at Maribela Hotel.

Day 7
Day 7: Lalibela – Addis Ababa - Arba Minch

Transfer out to the Lalibela airport. Domestic flight Lalibela to Addis Ababa and then connect to a domestic flight Addis Ababa to Arba Minch. Depart from Arba Minch to Dorze, set in the highlands above Arba Minch. The Dorze people are known for their tall beehive-like houses and their fine cotton weaving. You will visit the village and learn about the daily lives of these industrious people. If today is market day (in Dorze village on Monday and Thursday and in nearby Chencha on Tuesday and Saturday), that will be visited. Depart from Dorze to Arba Minch with overnight at Paradise Lodge (tukul).

Day 8
Day 8: Arba Minch - Turmi.

Visit Lake Chamo, which is part of the Nechisar NP. The lake is home to a large crocodile population. We will visit the “crocodile market”, an area of the lake nicknamed as such due to the impressive crocodile population usually found there. Hippos also inhabit the lake and might be spotted.

Depart Arba Minch to Turmi via the villages of Konso, home to the Konso people (market days Monday & Thursday), Weyto, home to the Tsemai tribe (market day Saturday), Key Afar, home to the Benna tribe (market day Thursday) and Dimeka (Hamer & Karo market, Tuesday & Saturday). Finally, proceed to Turmi, home of the Hamer tribe. At night, you might be lucky to see the traditional night dancing of the Hamer people, known as evangadi. Dinner and overnight at Buska Lodge.

Day 9
Day 9: Turmi - Omorate.

In the morning, depart to Omorate to visit the Dassenech tribe. Here you will cross the Omo River by local boat and enter a Dassenech village to visit this pastoralist community. Visit a local Hamer village. The Hamer tribe is known to be one of the friendliest tribes in the Omo Valley. Their women are easily recognized by their hair, hung in ringlets formed with mud and butter. Monday is market day in Turmi, the main commercial center for the Hamer people. If there is Jumping of the Bulls traditional Hamer coming-of-age ceremony, that will be visited with overnight at Buska Lodge.

Day 10
Day 9: Omorate - Jinka.

Depart for Jinka, via Dimeka and Key Afar. Tuesdays and Saturdays are market days in Dimeka, which is one of the most colorful markets in the area and is visited by many tribes, including Hamer, Benna and Karo. Thursday is market day in Key Afar, where you will see the Benna and Tsemai tribes trading goods. This is another very popular market in the region. Visit the South Omo Museum & Research Center to learn more about the local tribes. Additionally, take a hike in the surrounding hills to visit a local Ari village and learn how the locals do different tasks, such as blacksmith work and distilling the local gin, known as areki with overnight at Eco Omo Lodge.

Day 11
Day 11: Jinka - Konso.

In the morning, drive through the Mago National Park to a local village of the Mursi tribe. The Mursi women are well known for their lower lip and earlobe plates - the larger the lip plate, the higher the bride price they will get when married. Depart from Jinka to Karat-Konso via Key Afar. Thursday is market day in Key Afar, where you will see the Benna and Tsemai tribes trading goods. This is a very popular market in the region. After the visit, proceed to Konso (market days are Mondays and Thursdays). The Konso people are known for their wooden statues, known as wakas, which are erected in honor of dead heroes, as well as their innovative agricultural terracing. Today you will have the opportunity to visit a local village and the cultural museum displaying many waka statues. Time permitting, you can also visit the “natural New York Village”, named after the tall sand formations resembling skyscrapers with overnight at Kanta Lodge (tukul).

Depart from Konso to Arba Minch then board Domestic flight from Arba Minch to Addis Ababa from where you will travel to your next destination. End of Tour.
